    Editorial Policy

    Last updated: 8 September 2026

FinanceEdge is an independent South African finance publication focused on helping young people understand the financial sector, build professional knowledge and keep up with changes affecting finance, technology and careers.

This Editorial Policy explains how we approach accuracy, sourcing, independence, corrections, commercial relationships and the preparation of published content.

    Our Editorial Purpose

We publish content that helps readers understand finance in practical context.

    Our coverage may include:

    • Banking
    • Accounting and audit
    • Investment
    • Insurance
    • Corporate finance
    • Fintech
    • Financial technology
    • Artificial intelligence
    • Data and analytics
    • Regulation and compliance
    • Salaries
    • Qualifications
    • Professional growth
    • Industry news
    • Graduate and early-career opportunities

We select topics based on relevance, usefulness and their potential value to our audience.

    Accuracy

We aim to publish information that is accurate, clear and supported by reliable sources.

Reasonable steps are taken to verify factual claims before publication.

Where content includes information that may change over time, such as salaries, interest rates, product features, regulations, qualification requirements or programme conditions, we may review and update the information when necessary.

We do not knowingly publish information that we believe to be false or materially misleading.

    Sources

We choose sources according to the type of information being reported.

Where appropriate, we prioritise sources such as:

    • Regulators
    • Government departments and agencies
    • Banks and financial institutions
    • Listed companies
    • Professional bodies
    • Universities and educational institutions
    • Company reports and official announcements
    • Recognised industry organisations
    • Reputable research publications
    • Established salary and labour-market sources
    • Credible business and technology publications

Secondary sources may be used for context, but important factual claims should be supported by reliable evidence where possible.

    Current Information

    Finance changes quickly.

    This is especially true for:

    • Markets
    • Regulation
    • Banking products
    • Technology
    • Salaries
    • Professional qualifications
    • Recruitment requirements
    • Industry trends

Where timing is important, we aim to use current information and may include publication or update dates to show when the content was reviewed.

Older content may be updated, corrected or removed where it no longer provides useful or accurate information.

    Clear and Useful Writing

We aim to explain finance without unnecessary complexity.

    Our articles should:

    • Answer the main question clearly
    • Prioritise useful information
    • Explain technical concepts in accessible language
    • Distinguish facts from estimates or interpretation
    • Provide context where it improves understanding
    • Avoid unnecessary filler
    • Avoid exaggerating claims or outcomes

We simplify where possible, but not at the expense of accuracy.

    Analysis and Interpretation

Some FinanceEdge content may include analysis, interpretation or commentary.

Where we move beyond established facts, we aim to make the distinction clear.

Analysis should be based on relevant evidence and should not be presented as certainty where the underlying facts are uncertain.

    Financial and Investment Content

FinanceEdge may cover investments, financial products, listed companies, markets, banking, insurance and related subjects.

Editorial coverage is intended to inform and explain.

We do not present general editorial content as personalised financial, investment, tax, accounting or insurance advice.

Where investment or market information is discussed, factual claims should be supported by appropriate sources and uncertainty should be acknowledged where relevant.

    Independence

    We make editorial decisions independently.

Coverage of a bank, investment firm, insurer, accounting firm, fintech company, university, professional body or other organisation does not by itself indicate endorsement, sponsorship or affiliation.

Advertising, sponsorship, affiliate relationships or other commercial arrangements do not automatically determine what we cover or how independent editorial content is written.

Where a commercial relationship materially affects the context of a piece, it should be disclosed appropriately.

    Sponsored and Paid Content

We may publish sponsored, commissioned or commercially supported content.

Such content will be identified where appropriate so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial coverage.

Sponsored content must still meet reasonable standards for accuracy and should not contain false, misleading or unsubstantiated claims.

We may decline commercial content that does not fit our audience or editorial standards.

    Advertising

Advertising displayed on FinanceEdge is separate from independent editorial content.

Advertisers do not automatically receive favourable editorial treatment because they advertise on the website.

The presence of an advertisement should not be interpreted as an editorial endorsement of the advertiser, product or service.

    Affiliate Relationships

FinanceEdge may use affiliate links where appropriate.

Where a purchase, registration or referral may generate a commission, this should be disclosed where required or where the relationship could reasonably affect how readers interpret the content.

Affiliate relationships do not remove our responsibility to provide accurate and useful information.

    Salary and Compensation Information

Salary articles may use employer data, salary platforms, industry reports, recruitment sources or other relevant information.

Where practical, we prefer to compare more than one source.

Salary figures should be presented as estimates, reported figures or benchmarks unless they relate to a confirmed amount.

Where sources differ materially, that variation should be reflected rather than presenting one figure as universally applicable.

    Product and Service Comparisons

We may compare financial products, software, technology platforms, qualifications or professional services.

Comparisons should be based on meaningful criteria such as:

    • Features
    • Pricing
    • Eligibility
    • Functionality
    • Suitability
    • Risks
    • Availability
    • Professional relevance

Where a comparison includes subjective judgement, that judgement should be distinguishable from factual claims.

Commercial relationships should not be concealed where they could affect the reader’s interpretation.

    Industry News

When covering current developments, we aim to distinguish between:

    • Confirmed facts
    • Official announcements
    • Market reaction
    • Expert interpretation
    • Unconfirmed reports

Breaking or developing stories may change as new information becomes available.

Where necessary, articles may be updated to reflect material developments.

    Professional Growth and Career Content

We may publish content about finance careers, professional qualifications, skills, salaries, interviews, software and workplace development.

Such content should focus on practical value and avoid overstating career outcomes.

We do not guarantee that a particular qualification, course, skill or career decision will lead to employment, promotion or a specific salary.

    Opportunities and Programmes

Where we publish information about graduate programmes, internships, scholarships, training initiatives or similar opportunities, important details should be checked against reliable sources where possible.

    These may include:

    • Eligibility requirements
    • Application deadlines
    • Location
    • Programme duration
    • Qualifications required
    • Stipends or funding where confirmed
    • Application procedures

We do not create requirements or programme details that are not supported by available information.

    Artificial Intelligence and Editorial Tools

We may use digital tools, including artificial intelligence, to assist with research, drafting, editing, organisation or other parts of the publishing process.

The use of such tools does not remove editorial responsibility for published content.

Material factual claims should be checked against appropriate sources, and content should be reviewed for accuracy, clarity and relevance before publication.

AI-generated information should not be treated as an authoritative source where independent verification is appropriate.

    Images and Visual Content

Images may be sourced, licensed, created or generated for editorial use.

Visual content should support the subject of the article and should not intentionally misrepresent a person, company, event or development.

Where illustrative or generated imagery is used, it should not be presented in a way that falsely suggests it documents a real event.

Third-party trademarks, logos and protected material remain the property of their respective owners.

    Corrections

We may correct factual errors, update outdated information or clarify wording when necessary.

Minor corrections may be made directly.

Where an error materially affects the meaning or reliability of an article, we may add a correction or update note where appropriate.

Readers and organisations may report potential errors through the Contact page.

    Right of Reply

Where appropriate, organisations or individuals directly affected by factual reporting may contact us with clarification or supporting information.

Requests are considered on their merits.

A request for correction or removal does not automatically require content to be changed where the published information is accurate, lawful and supported by reliable evidence.

    Conflicts of Interest

Contributors should avoid undisclosed conflicts of interest that could materially affect editorial judgement.

Where a relevant conflict cannot reasonably be avoided, it should be disclosed where necessary for readers to understand the context.

    Removal of Content

    Content may be removed where:

    • It is materially inaccurate and cannot reasonably be corrected
    • It has become obsolete and no longer provides useful value
    • Publication creates a legal or safety concern
    • A third party demonstrates a legitimate rights issue
    • Removal is required by law
    • The content no longer meets our editorial standards

Requests for removal are considered individually.

    Reader Feedback

Reader feedback can help identify errors, outdated information and subjects that require further explanation.

Feedback, corrections and editorial enquiries may be submitted through the Contact page on FinanceEdge.co.za.

    Changes to This Editorial Policy

We may update this Editorial Policy as our coverage, publishing practices, technology or commercial relationships develop.

The current version will be published on this page with the applicable revision date.
